Bill came to us with 18 years of experience in the construction industry. He is a perfect fit for N.S. Giles because of his strong safety values. Bill started as a Knuckle Boom Operator and showed an interest in expanding his abilities.

Mentor Ryan Ross worked one-on-one with Bill over the course of three months to increase his competency and help Bill earn his National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators or NCCCO Certification. Bill's role is to maximize the articulating crane's ability for quick back and forth movement in the safest and most efficient manner possible.

The skills of a successful knuckle boom operator are more than mechanical. N.S. Giles operators must have sound and accurate judgement; the ability to follow instructions and respond to direction; prioritize and plan work; meet productivity goals; work in a timely manner; and of course be safe.

Today, we count on Bill to move thousands of tons of heavy forms and equipment on our job sites. We believe our company is as strong as our employees. It's why we encourage motivated people to fulfill their dreams. We're proud to have Bill Hughes on the N.S. Giles team!

Chris started with N.S. Giles in January of 2010. He is an experienced pump operator. In fact, he has trained three of our current operators in the proper, safe and efficient operation of our concrete pump trucks.

Chris has an innate ability to handle multiple tasks. He not only operates a concrete pump truck daily. He manages the pump truck schedule; the knuckle boom deliveries and solves everyday problems in our shop.

At N.S. Giles, we value people like Chris. People who demonstrate a variety of skills and are willing to share those skills with others. This is what ultimately grows our company and we are thankful to Chris for working at N.S. Giles.

Rich has been with N.S. Giles for over 14 years. His first job in the construction field was as a laborer. Today, Rich is a Superintendent, which makes him responsible for managing and directing the flow of work on the job site. His ability to establish and clearly communicate work priorities to his team makes him excellent at what he does.

Rich has a tremendous amount of knowledge of structural concrete work. He shares that knowledge with crew members daily and trains his crew in the nuances of the work. He also is responsible for accurate documentation of sitework; shop drawings, plans, even crew timesheets.

Rich has worked hard to get to where he is today. We're thankful to his mentors for encouraging him. Rich is always willing to share his knowledge and we appreciate everything he does to lead our teams.

Hard work and attention to detail are two key traits Eric Savage possesses. Like most of our employees he was hired as a laborer. He did his job well and expressed an interest in learning about Construction Layout.

We liked what we saw.

Eric's ability and interest were clearly worth investing in. Our philosophy at N.S. Giles is to reward good attitudes and strong interest. Eric Fogg, our Senior Field Engineer took him under his wing and over the course of four months taught Eric best practices for proper Construction Layout.

Today, Eric Savage is one of our top Field Engineers and his job is to ensure the highest accuracy and quality of construction are consistently executed.

Upon receipt of the plans, Eric is responsible for identifying design issues and the practicality of building the proposed structure before construction. Once construction begins he communicates with the Site Supervisor, General Contractor and Project Manager to determine the safest and most practical construction solutions. Eric constantly monitors and verifies the quality of work completing the "as-built" documentation. This record of what was constructed, where constructed and quality of completion represents the "proof of performance" for the project.

We're always looking to reward people who exhibit positive traits like hard work and attention to detail. We're proud to have Eric Savage as a member of the N.S. Giles team!

N.S. Giles partnered with Hampden Academy to help students interested in the trades, experience the work first hand, and earn credits toward graduation. Adam Thompson worked with us part-time over the past two semesters. He truly enjoyed the work experience, knowing full well most high school seniors don't get this opportunity.

Adam plans to leverage his strong math and science skills in a Marine Engineering major at Maine Maritime Academy in the fall. We have a standing offer for him to work with us during school breaks.

Meet Kyle O'Connell, Safety Director here at N.S. Giles. Kyle has been with the company for over 2 years as the Safety Director. Kyle has over 12 years of experience in the construction industry and more than 7 years of experience in safety. Kyle's dedication to the company's safety culture is second to none. When the COVID 19 pandemic hit, Kyle focused his efforts, and dedication, to lead the company's safe operations with the ever-changing requirements necessary to keep people working safely in adherence to new guidelines. At the start of COVID 19, he spearheaded daily call-ins to all the leaders to keep them fully engaged and up to speed as the pandemic worsened. Kyle has been a key leader in keeping accurate information in front of our teams while still working hard to maintain our high level of safety standards on all our sites. Kyle has also been a member of the Air National Guard for more than 9 years, and a recent promotion to Master Sargent. All of us here at N.S. Giles, and his beautiful young family at home, Thank you for your service and devotion to this company.

Say hello to Chris Bouchard. Chris started his career at NS Giles in July of 2019. Chris is one of the most motivated, hard-working individuals who brings a positive influence on every job site he touches. We could not be happier to have Chris on our team. Keep up the great work, Chris! Chris has recently been promoted to Team Leader.

Marvin started with the company as a laborer on 04/08/2005. He became Foreman for us on 01/25/2010. Marvin's tenure is quite inspirational in itself. He has come up through the ranks as an individual who started here with little to no experience, to becoming one of our best Foreman and leaders. Marvin won the safety award several times for having a "near perfect" to a "perfect score" on all safety compliance inspections. Marvin completed numerous complicated projects, the most recent, the Parker Residence project. Also, Marvin completed the intricate project for Bowden College, the Schiller Coastal Studies Center. Marvin is known for his attention to detail and precision, as well as his ability to provide clear and concise directions for his team members.

Get to know Keith Brown! Keith is a Foreman who started his career with N.S. Giles on February 4th, 2008. Since then, Keith has excelled in all categories of leadership and construction. Keith is known for his work ethic which is second to none, as well as his no-nonsense attitude that brings structure and consistency to our projects. We look forward to watching Keith grow in the years to come!

Say hello to Tyler Arbo, a resident of Newburgh, ME, and a student in Construction Management at the University of Maine Orono. Tyler joined N.S. Giles in the summer of 2019 in hopes to learn more about the construction industry and all that it had to offer. Tyler has worked with our layout team using high level Hilti layout equipment, learned to set forms, tie rebar, and now he is learning to read blueprints! Wish Tyler luck as he prepares to become a 2020 University of Maine graduate!
